About Deep Water BJJ

We built Deep Water for people who want to train the right way from the start.

Guided. Purposeful. Built for real progress.

Cameron Mitchell and Scott Cook founded Deep Water because they believed students deserved more than a room to train in and a schedule of classes to attend.

They wanted to build the kind of martial arts academy they would choose for themselves and their own families. A place with high standards, good people, serious training, and coaches who actually pay attention to whether their students are improving.

Takes 30 seconds. No experience needed.

The people you train with matter

At Deep Water, your experience is shaped by the people leading the room.

Not just what they know.

But how they teach.

Our coaching team is aligned around one standard:

Clear instruction

Attention to detail

Coaching that helps people improve step by step

You are not walking into an academy where everything changes depending on who happens to be teaching that day.

You are stepping into:

  • A unified training system
  • Coaches who communicate and work together
  • Classes that build on what you have already learned

Why Does That Matter?

People do not always struggle because training is too difficult.

They struggle when:

Instruction feels inconsistent

Classes feel disconnected

Progress feels unclear

They are left to figure too much out alone

That is the problem our training system is built to solve.

Our coaches help students build on the same foundational skills over time, so training starts to make sense and improvement does not feel like guesswork.

What We Focus On

At Deep Water, training is intentional.

We believe students improve best when:

Expectations are clear

Questions are welcomed

Coaches correct the details that matter

Progress is earned through consistent work

You are not just collecting techniques or showing up for another workout.

That gives you:

Less confusion.

You understand what is happening and what to do next.

Better decisions.

You stop guessing and start reacting with purpose.

Usable skills.

You can use what you learn under pressure.

Visible progress.

You can feel yourself becoming more capable over time.

Meet the coaching team

Deep Water Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is led by co-founders, owners, and head coaches Cameron Mitchell and Scott Cook.

Both are lifelong martial artists and 3rd Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belts under Brad Court of Paramount BJJ in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Deep Water is also affiliated with TAC Team BJJ.

Cameron and Scott have won gold medals in IBJJF competition and regional tournaments. They have also helped coach students to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gold medals, kickboxing victories, and MMA wins.

Those accomplishments show experience.

What matters to you is how that experience shows up when you are the one being coached.

Cameron Mitchell

Co-Founder, Owner & Head Coach
3rd Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt | Professor

Coach Cameron brings more than 20 years of experience in education, coaching, and leadership development into the academy.

Knowing martial arts and knowing how to teach it are not the same thing. Cameron focuses on breaking difficult skills down, helping students understand why they work, and making sure they know what they should be working on next.

For beginners, that means less time feeling lost and more confidence that you are learning the right things in the right order. For experienced students, it means having a coach who can help identify what is holding you back and give you a clearer path forward.

Scott Cook

Co-Founder, Owner & Head Coach
3rd Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt | Professor

Coach Scott has been teaching martial arts since he was 15 years old.

Decades of teaching have taught him how to spot the small details that can keep a student stuck and how to correct them before they become bigger problems. His coaching is direct, hands-on, and focused on turning what you learn into skill you can actually use.

The goal is not simply for you to know more techniques. It is for you to become better at applying them, making decisions under pressure, and seeing real evidence that your training is working.

One Standard Across the Academy

Cameron and Scott work closely with the rest of Deep Water’s coaching team to maintain the standards students should expect and deserve throughout the academy.

Every coach brings their own personality, experience, and strengths to the room.

What does not change is the curriculum.

Our coaches work from the same planned training system, so the techniques and concepts you learn in one class connect to what you have already been working on and what comes next.

You are not learning a completely different set of random techniques depending on who happens to be teaching that day.

Experience the Coaching for Yourself

You can read about a coaching philosophy.

It is much easier to judge it when you are standing on the mat.

Come take a real class, meet the coaches, and see how we work with students.

What It Feels Like to Train Here

Walking into a martial arts academy for the first time can feel uncomfortable.

We understand that.

Deep Water BJJ coach helping students during a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Our environment is:

  • Beginner-friendly
  • Organized and professional
  • Supportive without removing the challenge
  • Focused on learning, not ego

You will not be:

Thrown into something you are not ready for

Expected to already know what is going on

Left to figure everything out by yourself

Your coaches will guide you through the process.

What You Build Through Training

The value of training is not limited to the techniques you learn.

Over time, you are also building:

Earned confidence.

Not confidence because someone told you to believe in yourself, but confidence that comes from doing things you once could not do.

More composure under pressure.

Difficult situations become easier to work through when you are used to staying calm, thinking, and finding a way forward.

A stronger, more capable body.

You become stronger, better conditioned, more coordinated, and more comfortable using your body.

Real discipline.

Showing up, working through frustration, listening to coaching, and continuing to improve teaches something motivation alone cannot.

Pride in your progress.

There is a difference between hoping you are improving and being able to look back and see how far you have actually come.

FOR ADULTS

Become more capable, more composed under pressure, and more confident taking on difficult things.

FOR KIDS

Become more confident, focused, responsible, and more willing to work through things that do not come easily.

The progress starts on the mat, but it rarely stays there.

This Is Not Just About Joining a Gym

It is about choosing the people who will teach you, the environment where you will spend your time, and the kind of progress you want that training to produce.

If you are looking for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or martial arts training in Harrisburg, you do not need to know everything before you walk through the door.

You do not need to already be in shape.

You do not need previous experience.

You do not need to know which program is right for you.

You just need a place that will help you start well and keep helping you improve from there.

Book your free trial class and experience Deep Water for yourself.

Takes 30 seconds. No experience needed.
